CXCW2013 Recap (kind of)

Wheeeeeew!

So, CXCW2013 has come and gone…the Doritoballs have been eaten…and all of the videos have been watched (maybe).

There were 380(or something) videos!

That’s a TON of videos!  I really love CXCW, really, I do (remember?  I wrote about it back in Jan here).

I found a ton of new bands and I got to see bands I already enjoy .  Win/Win!

Really, CXCW is awesome.  I’m still going back through the posts to try to really absorb the videos and check out songs again.

I recorded a couple of videos for my favorite fellers Mic Harrison and The High Score

First we had this one of the entire band singing “Wiser the Whiskey” from the album “Push me On Home”:

Second is another another video with Robbie Trosper and Chad Pelton singing “Rock and Roll Clothes”

I also filmed Kevin Abernathy’s “Drama House” from his newest album “Some Stories” :

I was going to post some of my favorite videos from other artists that I found from CXCW2013, but there were so many videos I really enjoyed!  And I couldn’t choose without making a HUGE post.  So I made a youtube playlist.  I’m not 100% finished with it yet…and I’ll continue to add to it but check it out so far here:

Why I love CXCW

So,

If you know me in real life and you play an instrument/sing/are in a band, I’ve probably bugged you about making a Couch by Couchwest (aka CXCW) video.  Why do I think CXCW is so awesome?  Is it my love of music?  My love for music videos, but my even bigger love for the “behind the scenes” music videos?  Maybe because I have a kiddo and going to SXSW isn’t plausible due to funds/babysitting/travel/ect?  Or is it so awesome because I can join in without ever having to leave the comfort of my house?  (dude, I’m wearing pajama pants right now and it’s not even 6pm)

MAYBE IT’S ALL OF THE ABOVE!

After all, the motto of CXCW is “Where the beer is cheaper and the only hipster is you.”

Alright.

Joking aside, CXCW is awesome.

Part of the point of CXCW is lo-fi, (although creativity is encouraged and awesome), you don’t even need to be on a couch…just not on a stage.  Video for the pure sake of sharing the essence of the music.  You don’t have to make some slick super pro video that took 3 months to finish.  1 take is all you need.

I filmed Mic Harrison and The High Score’s CXCW video in the dirtiest…nastiest…most disgusting motel room ever last year (really, so dirty that I set my beer can down in between taking a pic and when I went to pick it back up and cockroach was on the can…ugh)

Anyway, here it is.

Here’s another great example by The Famous, because who doesn’t love a Misfits cover???

How about one from Micah Schnabe

AND

I had to include this song from Truersound, because who can forget the “Myrtle Beach Maracasin”?

This doesn’t even come close to a complete list of favorites from CXCW 2012… because there were TONS of amazing videos (hey look, check them out here), but I just wanted to show a little variety of videos, to encourage YOU to make one for CXCW 2013!

So0000…just film something on your ding dang smart phone, upload to youtube…and BOOM,  you’re ready to submit it (more info on how to submit videos here)

Really, do it.

Doooooo it.

(p.s I’ve noticed there’s been a random ad of youtube music videos on the bottom of this post…so if there’s a music video past this text…it’s not one that I’ve chosen.  It’s just wordpress making their $)

Holiday!

Holiday!, a set on Flickr.

So, I was going thru some of my old flyers and such and I realized I had a few Holiday/Christmas themed flyers…and I might as well dust them off and bring them out like the Christmas decorations that they can be (YAY A THEME!)

All but one of these are for Mic Harrison and The High Score .

The one with the snow globes is for a Christmas split they did a couple of years ago and I actually made a super lo-fi video to go along with those songs as well…here ya go.

Side A

Mic Harrison- Christmas Time At The Dixie Lounge

Side B

The High Score- Merry Christmas To You

Then there’s the holiday theme Highwaymen cover, that was for the Mic Harrison and the High Score cover of The Highwayman…and I happen to have a video for that one too.  This video was made from some great hi-8 footage the band shot when they were touring around Texas and I edited it together.

Anyway, Happy Holidays!

Make stuff!

Viiimmmmmeeeeooo

So,

I started a Vimeo account a while back to keep track of some of the video’s I’ve made, especially since any of the videos I’ve made for Mic Harrison I directly upload to his youtube channel vs. my own.  (that’s not a complaint by the way, it’s just better to have 1 version on youtube vs the official channel and my own, better stats, blah blah blah,)  (here’s that linky linky to his channel:  http://www.youtube.com/user/MicHarrisonOfficial )

But anyway, I started a video class this summer at UT and I put up my first assignment from that up as well.  So, check it out…or not.

here’s my link  http://vimeo.com/user4535789

I’m a horrible blogger

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted anything here….but I’ve been super busy (and I’ll post a prettier post about that later, with pictures and everything)
but for now.

read this.
Brad From the Road
It’s a blog written by Brad Henderson (the drummer for Mic Harrison and The High Score). He’s been keeping track of the fellers shows for years, but in the last couple of months we started up a blog on Mic’s band website. Check it out, I love the way he writes.

Also, look at this
Halloween at The Pilot Light
Halloween Pics from the Pilot Light in Knoxville. If you dont know about it, the Pilot Light is a great little club in Knoxville that has been around for years. And every Halloween they host a benefit show where local bands dress up as other bands and perform covers. I caught the Clash and the Plasmatics.

Good ol’ Knoxville TN.

OH! and I’m working on a new video for Mic Harrison and The High Score, but it’s not done yet. So, for now look at this.

OH! OH! One more thing, my sister is a tattoo artist, an awesome tattoo artist. They’re getting a facebook fanpage together, so if you’re on facebook check it out.

Uh, quick edit here, I was going thru old posts (it’s now 2012) and this post mentioned the old place she used to work, so now it’s easier to just find her fan page so here’s the new changed the linky dinky dooo  Cariann Dangit
